Belarusian specialists to help build large agribusiness factory in Egypt

MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) – Belarusian specialists will participate in the establishment of an agribusiness factory in Egypt, BelTA learned from Alexei Bogdanov, Head of the Central Office for Foreign Economic Activities of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

When a Belarusian delegation visited Egypt recently, Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats met with Egyptian Defense Minister Sidqy Sobhy. An agreement was reached on setting up an agribusiness complex in Egypt on par with Belarusian agribusiness complexes with assistance of Belarusian specialists. The Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry is preparing commercial offers for the delivery of Belarusian equipment and components for the future agribusiness complex as well as proposals to deliver food, including dry dairy products, butter, cheese, baby food, poultry meat, and beef.

The official explained that the agribusiness complex will include a dairy farm for 3,000 cattle, a greenhouse facility for growing vegetables, dairy and meat processing divisions that will use Belarusian meat and dairy materials to make a wide choice of products using Belarusian technologies. The agribusiness complex is supposed to be located in Egypt's north near the city of Alexandria. Besides, there are plans to set up an educational center as part of the agribusiness complex in order to allow Egyptian soldiers to acquire civilian professions that will come in handy after their retirement from the military service.

Members of the Belarusian delegation also visited a major bakery in Cairo, a dairy farm and a cheese factory in the city of Nubariya. These enterprises are run by the Education Ministry. “We suggested starting the production of rye bread to complement wheat bread. It will allow slightly reducing the prime cost of end products. Egypt is supposed to receive a pilot batch of rye flour in April. The Egyptian army does a lot of work providing food for the military and civilians. This is why we have to work together to increase production figures, primarily bread, vegetables, meat and dairy products,” said the official.
